Use a compact structure
State the context briefly, explain your action and reasoning, give the outcome, and say what changed in your later behavior. The reflection often matters more than a dramatic event.
Research for conversation
Know the program’s structure, patient population, educational priorities, location, and distinctive opportunities. Ask questions that help you judge fit rather than questions answered on the homepage.
Create a post-interview record
Soon after each interview, record strengths, concerns, culture signals, training details, geography, and unanswered questions. Keep communication compliant with NRMP and program policies.

Memorize the facts and lessons of your stories, not a script. Practice concise openings and then respond naturally to the exact question.
Can I ask about workload and wellbeing?
Yes. Ask respectfully and seek concrete details about schedules, supervision, support, leave, and how residents experience the program.
