Application architecture

Build one coherent evidence set.

Your experiences, statement, letters, scores, signals, and interview stories should support the same honest specialty narrative without repeating one another.

01

Identity + education

Names, history, transcripts, MSPE, exam transcript, certification status, and accurate dates.

02

Experiences

Clinical, research, teaching, service, leadership, and other work explained through scope and impact.

03

Narrative

A specialty-specific personal statement connecting experience, growth, contribution, and future direction.

04

External evidence

Letters from people who can provide relevant, specific examples of readiness and professional behavior.

05

Program strategy

Eligibility filters, fit, geography, signals, application breadth, and a documented reason for each choice.

06

Quality control

Final PDF review, date consistency, document assignment, signal check, and application confirmation.

Before interviews

Signals are scarce decisions.

For the 2027 MyERAS season, applicants to participating residency and fellowship programs can use signals. Apply specialty rules, remove ineligible programs, then allocate signals by genuine interest and fit—not prestige alone.

Use the signaling framework
During interviews

Build stories, not scripts.

Prepare flexible evidence for clinical reasoning, teamwork, challenge, feedback, leadership, and growth. Research each program and record rank-relevant evidence immediately afterward.

Prepare for interviews
After interviews

Rank true preferences.

Compare training, culture, geography, support, constraints, and career fit. NRMP advises ranking programs in genuine preference order, not where you predict you are most likely to match.
