Open every case safely
- Identify instability and immediate threats.
- Confirm whether the current location is appropriate.
- Order monitoring and urgent interventions when indicated.
- Gather focused information before broad testing when the patient is stable.
Order with purpose
Every test, consult, treatment, and location change should answer a clinical need. Avoid panels of unrelated orders that create noise, cost, delay, or risk.
When treatment is time-sensitive, do not wait for every confirmatory result. When treatment has meaningful risk, do not start it without the evidence the scenario requires.
Advance time as a decision
Before advancing, ask what you expect to happen and whether the patient is safe while you wait. Review results, vital signs, symptoms, and treatment response at appropriate intervals.
Close the case
- Arrange disposition and follow-up.
- Address prevention, adherence, and risk factors when appropriate.
- Provide patient education and safety-net instructions.
- Stop when the clinical objective is reached rather than filling remaining time.

How many CCS cases are on Step 3?
Day 2 includes 13 or 14 computer-based case simulations. Each has a maximum of 10 or 20 minutes of real time.
Should I order every possible test?
No. Practice focused and safe management. Unnecessary, invasive, or poorly sequenced actions may not reflect good care.
